Located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Avid was founded in January of 2019 by Shea Abernethy. With over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry, Mr. Abernethy launched Avid to address three glaring gaps in the industry. First, to break down the barrier of sound financial advice being limited to a select few. Second, to challenge the practice of commission-based investment products sold with high fees that can often miss big picture objectives resulting in lackluster results. Third, to counter the impersonal approach advisors often take with clients and replace it with interactive and purpose-driven solutions.

Prior to founding Avid, Mr. Abernethy served as Chief Investment Officer for Old North State Trust, where he oversaw all investment functions and management of nearly $400 million in client assets. He also held additional leadership roles serving financial institutions such as H.D. Vest Investments, Piedmont Trust Company, Wachovia, Wells Fargo Trust & Wealth Management, and AIG Valic. Mr. Abernethy holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from High Point University. In addition, he is recognized as an Accredited Investment Fiduciary Analyst (AIFA), an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF), an Enrolled Agent with the Internal Revenue Service (EA), and a Certified Estate & Trust Specialist (CES). Mr. Abernethy holds a Series 65 license, the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination.
